The course covers the beginnings of theatre and its historical origins, and then introduces students to Greek theatre,
its nature and structure. It also introduces the students to the critical background of looking at dramatic texts based on Aristotle’s Poetics.
Introduction to most celebrated Greek dramatists, like Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, follows, and one or two sample texts, King Oedipus, and/or Antigone,
is studied and analysed.
