ِAn academic medical initiative entitled "Check your blood pressure, save your kidneys"

In the light of the role of Manara University in developing and enhancing societal medical awareness and the medical conditions of the working staff, and the promising role of medical youth in society, Manara University, in collaboration with Medical Skills Learning Project MSL, organized an academic medical initiative in order to raise awareness on the increasing danger of high blood pressure and its relationship with chronic renal failure. On the occasion of the International Day of Blood Pressure and the International Day of Kidneys, Under the title "Check your blood pressure, save your kidneys", the university conducted a three-day medical initiative, in which the MSL team examined the blood pressure of the teaching staff and the administrative staff at the university in order to check silent high blood pressure cases, both treated and untreated, and provide necessary medical assistance and awareness for every case. The MSL team also conducted an interactive workshop to shed light on the most adequate methods of prevention. The workshop included a presentation of internationally valid statistics illustrating the wide spread of accidental and silent high blood pressure, and the most common errors and misconceptions related to measuring blood pressure and their impact on the measurement and, eventually, treatment and life style of the patient. Finally, the direct relationship between high blood pressure and chronic renal failure was illuminated.
